Module US | Virtual fashion and the future
FUTURING US through virtual touch
This module provides a structured approach to developing a conceptual vision of a speculative future environment and an imaginative avatar, incorporating carefully designed garments and accessories adapted for invisioned concept of the life in the future. Building on the knowledge and skills acquired in Module 1 and Module 2, the module introduces students to the process of digitizing manual patterns, refining avatars in CLO3D, and utilizing open-source software such as Blender.
Ultimately, this project is driven by the desire to explore a fundamental question: "Who are we? Who are we in relation to AI?". The aim is to foster deep reflection on ourselves, our relationships and feelings towards ourselves, and our connections with others (us), and how AI influences these dynamics.
Students will begin by manually designing various textures and materials while preparing maquettes for the envisioned environment. Subsequently, they will modify the avatar in CLO3D to ensure an appropriate fit for the garments before transitioning to Blender for further design refinements. Once the avatar is finalized, students will create garments, which will then be exported into Blender for advanced textile and texture development.
Through this process, students will gain proficiency in converting avatars and garments between CLO3D and Blender. Additionally, they will be encouraged to develop their envisioned environments within Blender and explore basic animation techniques.

Duration: 11 weeks
Students: Third-year Fashion and Textile design students
The module is set of three segmets, each of different intensity.
The module begins with lectures and intensive workshops in Blender and CLO3D. This is a good time for students to repeat some CLO3D knowledge they gained in Module 1 and Module 2 and gain new skills for digitizing the manual pattern. This segment of the project is also the time to introduce and launch the project and for students to find their personal research methodologies and research places where they wish to explore, study, and gather information. The second segment of the module focuses on the design and creation of garments using a variety of CLO3D avatars. Simultaneously, students attend classes in Blender, where they delve into the exploration of different textures and object design within a 3D environment.
And in the final segment of the module, students design their 3D environments based on the research and physical maquettes they developed throughout the project. The tools and design methods utilized vary depending on the individual project, requiring students to invest significant time in self-directed study.
